Marijuana comes from the cannabis plant and contains THC. THC produces the “high” that marijuana is often known for. Marijuana can be smoked, vaped and eaten, but is always prohibited per DOD and Service-level policies for Service members.

CBD is short for “cannabidiol” and it comes from hemp. You might find CBD used in lotions, foods (including coffee) and vape oils but it is prohibited for Service members to use per DOD and Service-level policies no matter the claimed or actual THC levels.

Hemp comes from the cannabis plant. You might see it used to produce materials and foods such as rope, fabric, protein powders, supplements and yogurt. The DOD and Service-level policies prohibit Service members from eating and using products made or derived from hemp no matter the claimed or actual THC levels. Durable goods like rope or clothing, however, are not included in this policy and are okay to use.
